It is with heavy hearts...we announce the passing of Jerry Wayne Abshire or the "Old Man" as he's known to his family and friends.  The Old Man was a resident of Payette, Idaho where he lived with his wife Donna for more than 23 years.

The Old Man was born in Abbyville, Louisiana on January 20, 1940 and passed away December 9, 2017.  Jerry completed all of his schooling in this wonderful little town, before enlisting in the United States Army.  Early in his military career, he was a helicopter mechanic, but quickly discovered that all the girls hung out with pilots and soon after enrolled in flight school.

The Old Man served two tours in Vietnam flying a Huey on his first tour and a CH-47 Chinook on his second tour.  He rarely spoke about his tours in Vietnam and when he did...he'd simply responded by saying..."All I did was take the troops to work".  We all know the Old Man was just being modest!

Young Jerry...way before he became the Old Man married Carole Ellen Cameron and together they raised four children, Kevin, Gary, Greg and Kristi.  One of his greatest gift to his children was he taught them to love and respect the great outdoors.

The Old Man loved the outdoors and spent his time enjoying wonderful adventures with his family and friends, but his true love was bass fishing.  The Old Man was a member of the Payette River Bassmasters for 20 years and loved the competition with the competitors and never failed to share several stories.  He was loved by many and will be dearly missed.  Jerry Wayne Abshire is survived Donna Silva, Carole Abshire, Kevin Abshire, Gary Abshire, Greg and Holly Abshire, Kristi Iveans and grandchildren, Christina Stepaniak, Dustin Stepaniak, Lane Abshire, Ben Abshire, Kyla Stuhlmiller, Dalton Iveans and great grandchildren Deshun, Oliver, Isla, Lily and Hunter.

Forever in our hearts...always on our minds!
