Thomas Duane Black, 78 of Payette joined his mother Cleo, father Bill and son, Steve in their final resting place on Saturday, September 30, 2023. Tom passed from the comfort of his own home with his loving wife and niece beside him.
Tom was born on January 29, 1945 in Yuba City, California. Tom married the love of his life, Linda Jones in April of 1963. The couple welcomed their daughter Brenda in 1964 and their son Steven in 1965. He was inspired from a young age by his uncles and their old cars. His hot rod dreams were fueled by family trips up and down route 66. His love for building, driving and racing old hot rods stayed with him throughout his life.
A Jack-of-All-Trades, Tom supported his family doing everything from working in service stations to building pole barns with his dad, Bill, and his lifelong friend and brother-in-law, Darrell Bond. Tom owned his own lawn business prior to retirement. Many other jobs were worked, but being a picker was his greatest gift. Tom became quite the collector of vintage service station memorabilia, pedal cars, automotive speed equipment and hot rods. Restoring old vehicles was his favorite hobby.
Tom is survived by his wife, Linda, his daughter, Brenda (Mike Stowe), his sister Billie Good, His grandsons, Dusty (Rikki McGehee) Stowe, Josh (Cosi) Black, Jeremy Black and his favorite (only) granddaughter Leanna Stowe (Roert Scott). Great grandchildren; Nash and Hudson Stowe, Ryan, Tanner and Maya Black, and Ace Scott. Tom was loved by numerous extended family members and adored by his nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life dinner will be held Saturday, October 7th from 6 - 8 pm at his residence. We hope friends and family will drive their vintage vehicles and join us in remembering our patriarch.
