Steven L Michael

Steven Lee Roy Michael passed away quietly at his home on August 28th 2020 surrounded by his family and loved ones. Steven was born in St. Francis Kansas on April 1st 1937 to Helen and Victor Michael, where he lived only a short time. His family traveled to Weiser, ID where they resided the rest of his childhood. Steve joined the US Navy in 1956 he spent the first years at sea on an aircraft carrier where he was a pre-flight mechanic, and the last year stationed in Japan. He was honorably discharged in 1960. He met the love of his life in 1957, he fell in love and married Opal Faye Haynes and her 6 children on April 2nd 1960, and together they had 2 more children. They had many adventures while raising there kids. They finally settled in Boise, ID where Steve worked for Trust Joist International, he retired from their in September of 1987. Steve and Opal traveled for 7 years and together decided to make their forever home in New Plymouth, ID. Steve spent his free time with his family, he loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and camping. He took pride in teaching his children and grandchildren to hunt and fish, and he's leaving us with memories we won't soon forget. Steve was so talented, he could create the most beautiful things with his hands... Woodwork, gorgeous paintings, quilts and butterflies, just to name a few. He began recycling as something to pass the time, but it soon became a full time job and something he loved. He made many friends along the way. The legacy he leaves behind is his humor, his kindness, generosity and his compassion. Steve was the kindest most generous man you ever met, no matter the kind of day you were having he always left you with a smile.

Steve is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, two sisters, his loving wife of 56 years Opal and three sons Gary, Bobby and Larry. He is survived by his son Calvin Michael, four daughters Linda Esque, Rita Whipple, Sherry Lacock and Lynetta (Rick) Morey, his nephew Clifford Michael, his grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. 

Graveside services are scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2020 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Weiser, Idaho.  A visitation for family and friends will be held at the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel in Payette, Idaho on Wednesday, September 2, 2020 from 6-8 pm.
