Obituary

Ronald Shirley Johnson, 85, of New Plymouth, ID passed away peacefully in his home on February 16, 2021 surrounded by family following a short illness.

Ron was born July 30, 1935 in New Meadows, ID to Kenneth and Arbie Johnson. Ron grew up in New Meadows, Idaho working at his family’s gas station/store while enjoying the area fishing, hiking, camping and many adventures. Ron graduated high school in 1953. He joined the U.S.Army in 1953 serving with the 11th Airborne Division and retired in1973 awarded with ‘The Meritorious Service Medal’.  Ron was also awarded Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal 5th award, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic Of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon W/Device(1960), Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver “W” Bar, Expert Badge with Carbine Bar, Sharpshooter Badge with Pistol Bar, and Korea Defense Service Medal. 

Ron met Ikuko Sawada in Japan. They were married and had three children together; Ronnie, Jaye Jaye, and Nickie.   

Ron married Myrna Johnson in 1977 and they had a temple marriage in 1985. Myrna had three teenage children, Loraine, Cesia, and Ronnie at the time of their marriage. ( yes that adds up to 3 Ron’s!! ). Ron and Myrna chose to reside happily in New Plymouth taking pride in their home and life.  Ron began a position with Job Service in 1978 retiring in 1985. Ron loved fishing and camping with his family. He loved most of all taking his kids and grandkids on early morning fishing trips. Ron also tried his best to grow a golfer out of one of his grandkids by making a golf course behind the house going in between the trees. Ron and and his wife Myrna created and shared many special memories with their loved ones and friends. They made a great team at work and play while creating a great life together.  Ron and Myrna were married for forty-three years. Ron was quick to laugh and make a joke but also loved the hard work of harvesting the trees on the property for firewood each year. Ron will be extremely missed and fondly thought of often. 

Ron is survived by his wife Myrna; LeRoy Johnson, brother; step-children, (donna)Loraine Gardner, Cesia Gardner and Ron Gardner;  children, Ronnie Johnson, Jaye Jaye Johnson and Nicki Lacer:  He loved having fun and telling stories to his 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11am on Saturday, February 20, 2021 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (LDS) in New Plymouth. Reception will follow. 

Social responsibilities regarding COVID will be in place and expected.
