Opal Louise Taberna, a loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2025, at the age of 77. She was born on September 2, 1947, and spent her life devoted to family, creativity, and teaching.
Opal graduated from Lewis and Clark State College, earning her Master of Arts degree. She enjoyed a rewarding career as a kindergarten through second-grade teacher, impacting the lives of many children over the course of more than ten years. Opal began her teaching career in Asotin, Washington, before relocating to Wilder, Idaho, where she continued to share her passion for education with her students.
An artist at heart, Opal created beautiful beaded art pieces that will be cherished for years to come. She was also an active member of the Bluebirds Button Club for over 25 years, contributing to the club’s bulletins and finding great joy in her involvement.
Opal was a devoted animal lover, particularly passionate about helping cats. She made numerous donations to organizations dedicated to protecting and caring for stray cats, and her love for animals extended into her everyday life.
Opal married John Taberna in October of 1982, and together, they shared a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. She is survived by her two daughters, Melissa Dinucci (Mike) and Amy Romero (Edgar), and her two grandsons, Christopher Romero and Anthony Dinucci. She is also survived by her sisters, Pat Madsen and Bonnie Permann (Vern), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be sent to Pet Haven or Happy Cat Sanctuary in Opal’s memory.
Opal will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her kindness, creativity, and love for her family and animals left a lasting mark on the hearts of everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
