Opal Futter Obituary

Opal Futter was born Opal Bernice Wood on June 2nd, 1935 to Homer and Edna Wood in a logging camp near Moyers, OK. She went to be with her savior, May 1st with many of her loved ones at her side.

Her father was a logger and her early childhood was moving from one logging camp to another. Her schooling was one room schools. In 1947 Clyde Holiday moved his entire logging operation along with all his employees to Mount Vernon, OR. Opal can remember the move as an exciting time, camping out on the way. Some people stopping and asking “where the circus was going to be.”

She then went to school in Mount Vernon, making many lifelong friends. She married Doyle Walker who was killed in a trucking accident. She later met and married her life long love, Herb Futter. At the time of death they were married nearly 49 years.

Mother Opal and Herb took in foster children which she loved. Over 100 children felt the love. Opal was preceded in death by her parents Homer and Edna; her sisters, Evelyn, Alma Ruth, Norma Jean, Ruby; and her brothers James and Homer as well as several nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband Herb; son James; sister Florence; brother J.D., and numerous nieces and nephews.

Opal was a mother, grandmother, and favorite aunt figure to all of her family. She had a way with family and friends to suck them into her web of love. She was very much loved by all.

She loved being with her family and especially doing almost anything with Herb.
