Joy Elaine Dyas Montgomery
August 18, 1931 - February 28, 2025
Joy Elaine Dyas Montgomery of Ontario, OR, passed away on February 28, 2025, at the age of 93 from natural causes. She was born August 18, 1931, in Nampa, ID, and then moved to Vale, OR when she was very young. There, she attended school. Joy was challenged with polio when she was in grade school. She received a priesthood blessing and went to the hot springs in Vale to soak her legs daily. She miraculously overcame the disease. She always felt blessed and decided to live up to her name and be a joyful person. She lived in Vale until she graduated high school. A week later, she married her sweetheart, Vernon B Montgomery. They were married for 71 yrs. Joy enjoyed farming with her husband, and while farming, returned to college to get her degree in nursing. She worked at Holy Rosary Hospital for over 25 years all while raising their five children. She was very active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was President of the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society. She loved to sew, paint, do crafts, and garden. She was a very talented and loving person. She was a great cook and enjoyed hosting others. Everyone who knew her loved her kind and caring nature. She was a busy person; the grandkids called her the energizer bunny. She is survived by five children: Verna Pike (Chuck), Phillip (Nita), Dennis (Debra), Allen (Tonia) and Rhonda Banks (John). She was preceded in death by: Her parents Lloyd and Leah Dyas, Her husband, Vernon Montgomery. Three brothers, two sisters and two grandsons. Services were held on Monday, March 10, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The family would like to thank the staff at Pioneer Rehab Center in Vale, OR, and for the awesome care she received from the Canyon Home Health and Hospice.
