Jesse David Travis, 73, of Ontario, Oregon, passed away on September 13, 2024 after a long battle with cancer. Born as a twin on April 8, 1951, in Newton, Alabama, he moved with his family to Ontario in 1962 and then to Riggins, ID in 1965. His educational journey began at Daleville Elementary in Alabama and continued through Ontario Junior High in Oregon, concluding at Salmon River High School in Riggins, Idaho, graduating in 1970. Jesse married Patricia Jess in 1972 and later divorced. Jesse lived in Ontario at the time of his death.
Jesse was known for his colorful personality and was often described as 'quite the character.' He played many jokes on friends and co-workers and thoroughly enjoyed doing so. True to his nature, he passed on Friday the 13th. Jesse was a free spirit who loved hunting, fishing, children and his beloved Boise State Broncos football team which he listened to on the radio leading up to his death. He also loved sitting on the deck and listening to 60's rock on the radio, one of his favorite's being "House of the Rising Sun."
His career spanned several decades, during which he worked as a roofer for Ontario Roofing, a millwright for Leon James Construction, and a carpenter for Allen Construction in Lucille, Idaho to name a few.
A lifelong lover of birds, particularly pigeons and baby chicks, Jesse's passion for birds was well-known among his friends and family. When he was little he chased after the baby chicks and the mama hen would fly over his head and flog him and he'd run to Mama crying. Jesse also had an eye for classic cars, harkening back to his red '65 Chevy Nova SS he drove in high school.
Jesse is survived by his sisters, Lorraine (Leon) James of Ontario, OR, Bessie Cullin of Whitebird, ID, Margaret (Ron) Bowman of Riggins, ID, Diane (Mike) Patterson of Ontario, OR; his brother, Roy (Gail) Travis of Riggins, ID; his daughters, Brandi Creamer of Boise, ID and Amber Donahue of Elko, NV; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; numerous great, great grandchildren; numerous loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews; special cousins, both here and in Alabama and many friends. Jesse's family would like to thank the Cancer Center of St. Al's in Ontario, Heart 'n Home Hospice in Fruitland, Angel Wings Network in Weiser and all of his caregivers for the loving and caring manner they showed to Jesse.
The Passing of Jess
"The days they pass one after the other,
I sit by the bed of my fading brother,
The hand I hold is icy cold,
On his head I lay the other.
Then there came a shadow, swift and sudden,
dark and drear, the room was silent,
not an echo stirred, we waited and never spoke a word.
Silent, came a voice that filled our hearts with sorrow,
the soul that lies here on this bed, will see no more tomorrows.
The tears they came and fell like rain,
for the loss of another brother.
The prayer is prayed, he's on his way,
to climb that golden stair, and waiting there,
with wings a-flair, and outstretched arms is .....Mother."
