Gilberto Hernandez Martinez

Gilbert (Gilberto or Beto) Hernandez Martinez, 85, of Ontario, OR, passed away on December 11, 2025.

He was the third child born to Demetrio and Dionisia Martinez on March 3, 1940 in Pharr, TX. Throughout his early life, he traveled with his family from Texas to Oregon looking for work. When the family settled in Ontario, OR, he worked for Ore-Ida. Later he went to work for Treasure Valley Community College as a custodian where he worked for 53 years at night. He also enjoyed working summers for Teramura Farms during the day.

His love of dancing introduced him to his future wife, Orlinda (Linda) Dora Madrid. They married on March 3, 1973 and had two daughters, Crystal and Luzett. He enjoyed their summer vacations, visiting family in Utah and Texas, and later playing with his three grandsons. He could always be found with a huge smile on his face and loved to joke around with his family and friends.

Gilbert was a loving husband, father, and “papa”. He is survived by his wife Linda, daughters Crystal (Rolando) Rodriguez, Luzett (Danny) Burks, grandsons Mitchell Griffin, Isaac Burks, Alejandro Rodriguez, siblings Luis Martinez, Olivia (Larry) Plummer, his nephew Ricardo (Alayna) Hanson, niece Yvette Martinez, and great niece Kira Marie. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Oralia Hanson, and his brother Esiquio (C.Q.) Martinez. Gilbert was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

A viewing and rosary in Gilbert’s honor will be held at Haren Wood Funeral Chapel from 6 to 8pm on Thursday, 12/18, and funeral Mass at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church at 10am on Friday, 12/19, with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Ontario, OR.
