David ”Sean” Gillespie passed away December 31, 2023, at the age of 56, in the presence of his loving family from complications of early onset dementia. Sean was born in Hawthorne, Nevada on February 28, 1967, to David and Wanda Gillespie and was joined by his sister Dana two years later. After living in Nevada for several years Sean’s family returned to Ontario to be nearer their families. Sean graduated from Ontario High School in 1985 and attended college at Eastern Oregon University, Treasure Valley Community College, and University of Oregon.
Sean met his wife Christy in the summer of 1992, and married on June 28, 1997. From this marriage came a son Sean “Brooks” and daughter Samantha Noel Krista. Later in life bonus daughter Tayva joined the family. Sean loved coaching his kids in sports mostly soccer and football, but loved shooting hoops, playing softball and baseball, and enjoyed Sami in cheerleading as well. He was a fierce competitor in every sport he participated in or coached. Sean had a passion for weightlifting that started in school, still holding some records for his age during his time at Tony’s Gym. Sean always wanted to share his love of lifting, often getting friends to join him.
Sean was blessed to have many friends that he made in Ontario through school that have remained close throughout his life. As Sean worked through many different seasons of his life in jobs from retail to construction, maintenance and more he made more friends that were close, once you became Sean’s friend you remained close even if there were years between visits you could pick up where you left off as if no time had passed at all. Sean was gifted in making people laugh but with a kind heart. He was always willing to be a protector if you were in his circle of loved ones. He always had time to play and be silly, make up silly songs and play sports with all ages.
The biggest thief of dementia for Sean was losing his ability to speak. He thrived on being a storyteller and comedian. He was the class clown. Sean loved a wide range of music and sharing what he was enjoying. Rarely was there a day where he wasn’t listening to music he loved. Although he struggled with communication, one of the last phrases he could say was “I love You.” There are just not enough words to say everything special to describe our Sean-O.
Sean leaves behind his wife Christy, son Sean Brooks Gillespie, daughter Samantha Gillespie (Izzias), bonus daughter Tayva Kaaihue (Kekoa and their daughter Anela), his parents Davd and Wanda Gillespie, sister Dana McAughty (Jason), nieces Spencer Fraizer (Nate), Skyeler Dzhidzhiyeshvilli (Vlad), Shawnee Shaffer (Kain), Summer Genovese (Simon), Jennifer Easton (Chris), nephews Gage Walters (Hailey), and Monte Roberts. And many great nephews and great nieces as well.
Special Thank you to the staff at Sunset Villa Memory Care and Signature Home Health and Hospice for the loving care provided over the last 6 months, thank you just does not seem like enough.
The celebration of life will be Saturday January 6, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Calvary Chapel, Ontario, OR.
