Welcome to the memorial page for

Wilma Ruth Sanner

August 17, 1921 ~ March 2, 2012 (age 90) 90 Years Old
Wilma Ruth (Carey) Sanner, 90, Ontario, Oregon, passed away March 2, 2012 at Wellsprings Assisted Living facility. The family is appreciative of the compassionate care the Wellsprings staff and Heart and Home Hospice have provided.
Wilma Ruth Carey was born in Pittsburg, Kansas, on August 17, 1921, the third child of Lafayette Jonathan and Agnes Gallaghar Carey. She graduated from the town’s high school and then left her home to attend the Nazarene college in Pasadena, California. She continued her piano studies and accompanied college vocal groups. In College she met her husband-to-be, Harold Mercer Sanner, Sr., a man she would refer to as “wonderful.”
For the next 40 years they would be a ministerial team for the Church of the Nazarene with Harold preaching and Wilma playing the church piano. They had a successful ministry wherever they went, serving churches in both California and Oregon. They were thoroughly at ease together and communicated their joy in life with Christian love toward others. Harold, Sr., passed away in 2001.
While living in her home, Wilma shared her exceptional talent by teaching youngsters to develop her same love for the piano. In later retirement years she assisted the Ontario Bethany Presbyterian congregation for a time by playing for their worship services, choir, and soloists, just as she had done in so many Nazarene churches. Her property was noteworthy in the way she faithfully kept everything tidy and colorful. Her favorite flower was the rose; she never grew weary of caring for what she planted. Wilma had a talent for decorating and was also generous in offering her home for gatherings.
The twinkle in her eye, the gracious reception she always gave her family and friends, the tasty cherry pies, and her gifted, marvelous touch on the piano are greatly missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harold M. Sanner, Sr., sister Lavonne (Carey) Moore, brothers Hugh and James Carey, and a dear stepmother, Goldie Campbell Carey. She was also preceded in death by her parents-brothers-, and sisters-in-law: A. Everette and Marie Mercer Sanner; A. Elwood and Ruby Sanner, Wesley Sanner, Ruth Sanner Westmoreland, and Kenneth Sanner.
She is survived by her only child, son Harold Mercer Sanner, Jr. (Carolyn) of Ontario, Oregon;  two grandchildren, Camille (Michael) Lehosit, Eagle, Idaho, and Gregory Sanner, Boise, Idaho; ten great-grandchildren: Christopher, Andrew, Amelia, Elizabeth, Jaclynne, Ava, Lydia, and Creighton Lehosit, Eagle, Idaho; Jocelyn and Celeste Sanner, Boise, Idaho. She is also survived by a sister-in-law, Evelyn Davis Sanner and brother-in-law, George Westmoreland, six nieces and nephews and their spouses, along with several great-nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held Thursday, March 8, 2012 from 6:30-8:00 p.m., Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Ontario, Oregon. The funeral services will be held Friday, March 9, 2012 at 3 PM at the Ontario First Church of the Nazarene, under the direction of the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel.
