Ruth Elizabeth Cottrell

Ruth E. Cottrell 93 Nyssa Oregon died Friday July 13, 2018. Funeral services will be at 10.00 am Friday July 20th at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, located at 1309 Park Ave. Nyssa, OR. Family and friends may gather at 9am Prior to services.  Ruth was born on Sept. 27, 1924 in Falk Payette County Idaho to Alvin John and Katie Sims. She was the fifth of six children. She married Melvin George Cottrell on December 30, 1945 in Burlington Wyoming. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple shortly thereafter. Ruth was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Among other callings, she served many years teaching young children in the Primary. She also taught early morning seminary to the youth. Ruth spent hours sewing, cooking and canning. But dancing with Melvin was her passion. They taught and participated in dance for many, many years in the church and in the community. She is survived by one sister, Lazetta Hunter, of Payette, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Sims, of Boise; five children, Ron (Bobbi) Cottrell, Boise; Sharon Cottrell, Nyssa; Doreen (Martin) Elguezabal, Nyssa; Lois Cottrell, Nyssa; and Kathy (Rodger) Poulton, Boise; 8 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alvin and Katie Sims; her husband, Melvin George Cottrell; one brother, Alvin Bud Sims; and three sisters, Wanda Sims, Wilda Hull and Rhea Jensen.
