Welcome to the memorial page for

Richard Bennett

November 27, 1936 ~ September 20, 2017 (age 80) 80 Years Old

Richard Harvey Bennett, (Dick), 80, died Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at home surrounded by family after a 2 year battle with cancer.

He leaves his wife of 60 years, Carly (Boren) Bennett, his sons Lonny and his wife Jamie, Danny, Brian and his wife Stacie, and daughter Lori (Bennett) Holcomb and her husband Scott, eight grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and many close friends.

Born and raised near Adrian, the son of Harvey and Winifred (Councilman) Bennett, he was a longtime resident of the Big Bend.

In his early years, Dick worked on the family farm in the Big Bend. He told stories of seeing German Prisoners of War harvesting crops on their farm. After graduating from Adrian High School in 1957, he worked several different construction jobs including work on the road above the Owyhee Dam to Cherry Creek. He loved racing old cars and told lots of stories about this to his children. He met his wife, Carolyn Boren on a blind date in 1954 and was married on August 7th, 1957.

In 1958 Dick and Carly bought a farm in the Big Bend which they worked for the next fifty years until retirement. He loved having neighbors stop by for morning coffee and talk about farming. He was an active member of the Big Bend Irrigation District. He served on the steering committee that was responsible for overseeing the financing of the new power plant at the Lucky Peak dam east of Boise. He not only took pride in his farming, but truly relished the friends he made during his time on the farm. Dick was also an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved the annual trips to the Oregon coast salmon fishing and to Fish Lake in the Wallowa Whitman forest every July. He loved deer hunting and elk hunting with family and friends.

Dick served as a member on the Adrian School Board and also served as its Chairman for several years. He was also a member of the Elks for many years.

Dick was preceded in death by his parents Harvey and Winifred Bennett, and Danny’s wife Angie.

The family would like to thank the Doctors and Nurses at St Luke’s MSTI in Fruitland and Nurse Abbi at Canyon Home Care and Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to Dick.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am September 30th at the Adrian Community Church.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Ontario.
