Mike, who was 72, passed away on March 7, 2018 after a ten-month struggle to recover from multiple strokes. We are glad that he is now at peace and free of pain. We know he is grateful to the caregivers and therapists who helped him all these months and the family and friends who visited him.
Mike was the youngest of four sons in a family of five children born to Clair and Hazel Hardin in Ontario, Oregon. He grew up on the family farm near Letha and learned to be strong and hard-working and loved to fish and hunt. He went to grade school in Letha and graduated from Emmett High School in 1963. He joined the National Guard in Emmett.
Mike hauled milk, was a dairy farmer, and did custom farm work, always being a man who helped friends and neighbors whenever he could. He knew machinery and how it worked and could be repaired, and taught younger people his skills and knowledge. And always he worked. He loved flowers and could grow anything. He was a great cook gaining skills while in the Guard. He loved the country and open natural spaces, hating congestion, smog, traffic and computers. He was a man of strong opinions and voiced them. He believed in doing what he could, wanting what he had, and being who he was.
Mike has two strong, independent daughters, Lisa and Kaitlyn and one granddaughter, Chloe. He loved and is proud of all.
Mike is predeceased by his parents, Clair and Hazel Hardin, and is survived by his daughters and granddaughter, and his brothers and their wives, Larry and Carol Hardin, Post Falls, Joel and Janet Hardin, Clearwater, Donald and Elda Hardin, Emmett, and his sister, Roseanne Hardin, Boise.
A memorial potluck gathering for family and friends to celebrate Mike’s life will be held on April 6, 2018 at the Community Bible Church at 120 E. Third, Emmett at 11:00a.m.-1:30 p.m.
