Elma Lucille (Syme) Turnipseed, 92 of Weiser passed away Saturday, October 27, 2018. Lucille was born in Ontario, Oregon on February 8, 1928 to her parents Ester and William Syme. Both parents were immigrants from Scotland. She grew up on a homestead near Big Willow Creek east of Payette with her two brothers Clark and Bob, and her younger sister Ann. She attended Payette High School and was proud to have graduated in 1944.
She married John Turnipseed on November 3, 1945. Her brother Clark was home on leave from the Navy at that time. He married Lucille’s best friend Elaine in the same ceremony. She and her husband John both worked at the Weiser Laundry. She also worked as a waitress and as a quality control person at Ore Ida.
In 1972 the couple bought a small corner grocery store in Portland, Oregon from John’s sister. They moved back to Nampa in 1982 where John became ill and passed away in 1984.
She moved back to Weiser and resided there until her passing.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother Bob Syme, sister Ann Ball, and her daughters Linda King and Christy Harvey.
She is survived by her son Dale and his wife Bobbie Turnipseed, her oldest brother Clark and his wife Elaine Syme, her two son in laws Richard King and James Harvey, 8 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
She was a kind and caring person and could make friends with anyone. This was definitely a Syme family trait. Everyone who knew Lucille felt how loving she was. She was a wonderful wife, mother, and grandmother. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at 11:30 on Nov. 7th at the Weiser Christian Church. All friends and family are welcome. Reception at the church will follow the service.
