David Corn

David Powell Corn was born on January 5, 2013. He weighed 7 lbs 15 ozs. Even before David was born he had a special hold over his mom. Melissa spent the last 13 weeks of her pregnancy on bedrest. Once David was here he only liked his mom. It took over a year for David to warm up to anyone else.

Once David could speak, he classified everything he did as “work.” He did not go outside to play. He went outside to work. Even at the young age of four, David had a job. He worked at Fiesta Farms where he was responsible for stamping papers and shredding old documents. His “Fiesta Work” was a responsibility he took very seriously. David loved having a lot to do. He would get up, get dressed, do breakfast, then be outside until it was time for a yogurt break. As soon as he was finished eating he would be back outside in the dirt pile, driving trucks, irrigating, and working the ground. He loved the dirt. He loved everything about it, the feel, the smell, and the way he could move and manipulate it.

David’s life was in the details. He noticed as the wheat fields changed from rippling green to glowing gold. David loved farm equipment of all kinds, but especially corn chopping and hay baling machinery. He knew the make, model, specs, and accessories of all kinds of equipment. When he was just learning to speak, David would refer to the “green tractor” or the “red tractor” then progressively added more details as he could speak more and had more questions answered. David would ask questions about what things were, what did they do, how do they work, what are they for, who uses them, how does someone use them…he wanted to know how things work.

David had an amazing imagination. He created incredible Lego structures of magnet-tile creations. Just as he wanted to know just how everything in his world worked, he wanted to make things of his own. His mind was always turning.

David loved being out and about, making special friends wherever he went. David didn’t talk with his mouth, he spoke with his whole being. As much as he loved being out and about with people, he loved to be at home. He loved his family and considered them to be “his”. He didn’t often refer to them by their names, but instead as “My sister” or “My brother”. He went with his dad on the farm whenever he could, and loved to help his mom with anything she was doing. He added a bright light to their home.

David had the personality of a warrior. He lived his brief life large and didn’t pass up any opportunity to show love, affection, excitement, joy, wonder, fascination, or commitment. He perceived everything he did as his “work” and he did his work tremendously well. We will be celebrating the joy he shared at services to be held at the LDS Church in Nyssa on Wednesday, November 29, at 10 am.

He is survived by his loving parents, Dan and Melissa Corn; his siblings, Arcadia Grace and Michael Ray; his grandparents Bruce and Renae Corn, and Ivan and Annette Waddoups, great-grandmother Bette Lasley, and his aunts and uncles Andra and Jeff Kunzler, Jason Waddoups, Mark and Patricia Waddoups, Brent and Lisa Waddoups, Rebecca and Theron Weston, Amanda and Greg Saunders, Annie and Clay Ward, Mary Corn, Ruth and Justin Blazzard, Kevin and Elizabeth Corn, and Rachel and Ty Hawkins, as well as numerous cousins and special friends. He leaves a hole in our hearts and a bright light we will carry with us.
