Prescott E. Wilkie, 96, died July 12 at his home in Payette.
Prescott was born in Firth, Idaho in 1914, the fourth of eight siblings. He grew up farming, then spent a year in Southern Idaho College (now Id. St. U.). He left college to help on his parents’ and grandparents’ farm in Firth and there he was introduced by his sister Ruth to her teacher, Eileen Leonard. Prescott and Eileen were married the summer of 1939 and moved to his grandfather’s farm in New Meadows the spring of 1941. There he ran a small dairy herd. In the early 50’s he went to work at the sawmill in Tamarack. Three children were born in the 40’s.
The family moved to Payette in the fall of 1958 when Prescott found a job at the Emmett sawmill. He also sold Idaho Farmer Stockman and Culligan Water Softeners, then found work as a real estate salesman, in time becoming a realter in his own office.
Throughout his working years and his retirement he was active in the Methodist Church and Kiwanas. Other interests included tanning hides, bird hunting, fishing, and “coffee” with friends at Sedlemeyers and later at Tip’s. His solo baritone voice was heard in church, school programs and various other song groups. He enjoyed classical music, Shakespeare, and other great literature. Kind, helpful, witty, a good husband, father, and friend, he lived his life well. Things were not always easy but he never complained, never laid his troubles on anyone else - just did what needed to be done and went on with life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, five siblings, and his wife Eileen. He is survived by two siblings, his children Karen, Gene, and Louise, five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Open to family and friends a graveside service will be held Sat. July 17 at 2:00 in the Rosedale Cemetery under the direction of the Haren-Wood Funeral Chapel, Payette. | |

Dear Gene, We send our sympathy to you and your family on the passing of your father Prescott. Ruth's mom Alma Greif passed on to be with the Lord July 1st so we were just in Payette for that. Our van is currently broke down so we won't be able to attend but we will be praying for you. That was a good picture you sent of yourself to the class of 1961 blog. We didn't have any problem recognizing you. We'll have to find one to send too. Your father will be missed. Love, Randy and Ruth Smith

I'd like to express my sympathy in the loss of your father. It's seems hard to accept the fact that now WE are our families' eldest generation. May memories of your life with your parents remain precious & sustain you forever.
God bless, Gerrie Ahrens Stults (PHS '62)
