Raymond John Unrein Sr., 65, of Riggins Idaho, passed away in the comfort of his home on
July 2nd 2017 after a long battle with cancer.
John was born on June 10th, 1952 in Prineville Oregon to Robert Unrein and Darlene
Hilderbrand. John married Carol Bailey in October of 1973. John was a veteran of the Vietnam
War and served in the United States Army. During his time in the Army he was awarded many
medals. John was a mechanic, a welder and ran heavy equipment. John was a talented man
in all things he did. John was a licensed NHRA driver. He loved to do all things that had to do
with cars and outdoors. During the last few years he got very involved in building his cars and
drag racing. John earned a very meaningful nickname at Firebird raceway as the “Sandman”
when he drenched the racetrack in sand. John was an amazing man that was always willing to
give a helping hand, a listening ear and had a heart of gold. He would have given the shirt off
his back if you were ever in need. John was a very family oriented man who was always
planning the next family adventure.
John was preceded in death by his mother, Darlene Ruth Hilderbrand, his father, Robert John
Unrein, his son Raymond John Unrein Jr. and granddaughter Brianna Abigail Unrein.
John is survived by his daughter Patricia Rubey, granddaughters Shasta and Amber,
grandsons, Elliott, Raymond and Brandon, great grandchildren Kayden, Mckenzie, Ryker and
Onaray, four siblings, Debbie, Charles, Marci, and Scott. Along with many uncles, aunts,
cousins, nieces, and nephews. He will forever be missed, never forgotten, always loved.
Funeral services will be held on July 10th, 2017 at 1pm and a viewing is scheduled for Sunday
July 9th,2017 5pm to 7pm
